11/21/09 - Take advantage of solar heating
It may be a little misleading to present the solar heating as a new invention. In 1978, Sunmaster Corp. in Corning developed and patented the first commercially successful solar collection system, using evacuated tubes similar to those depicted in the photograph with the Nov. 14 article. For a while, the tubes were manufactured in Corning. That business failed after 1985 when government incentives were discontinued. There are numerous installations of Sunmaster collectors still working all over the country, nearly 30 years later. The technology is now a multi-billion dollar industry in China and elsewhere. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Don't get burned by Ads for this Heater
KeelyNet The Amish mantle from Heat Surge has been around for several years, and it's hard to believe it hasn't gotten enough bad press to make sure everyone is aware of it, but Larry and Brenda are proof that its mass ad campaigns continue to leave an impression on consumers. If you've missed the ads -- typically designed to look like newspaper articles -- they carry headlines like "Amish mantle and miracle invention help home heat bills hit rock bottom." Some of the ads have promised to give away these "miracle heaters" for free, although you only actually get them that way if you buy the surrounding mantle, which will set you back about $300. The device -- formally called a Roll-n-Glow Fireplace -- is a portable heater built to look like an actual fireplace. The "miracle" is the "fireless flame," which basically is a fake fireplace; it doesn't appear to be much different than the film-loop fireplaces that some community television stations use as a backdrop when they don't have fresh programming over the holidays. They're about as warm as those images, too. You get the fireplace look without the flame, ashes, soot, smell, mess or chimney. Don't believe the hype. If you're looking for some type of country, feel-good feeling from the Amish connection, you're stretching. Some Amish don't use electricity, so an electric heater made in China isn't too authentic; in fact, it's only the mantle that goes around the heating unit that is made by Amish craftsmen. The product's claims, however, are the biggest issue. They can be boiled down to this line in the ad: "Only uses about 9 cents electric an hour; so turn down your thermostat and never be cold again." U.S. Department of Energy studies show that space heaters save money only when they heat one room at a time, so that you take the heater with you and keep the neighboring rooms chilly. The Amish heater does roll, but it's a lot clunkier than most portable heaters; plus, that fake fireplace might look a bit goofy standing in the middle of the kitchen or laundry room when you need to warm those areas up. Moreover, electric costs per hour vary not only by the setting you put the heater on, but also based on the electric rates where you live. And then there's the claim that the Amish Fireplace produces "an amazing 5,119 BTU." If you remember high-school science classes, you might recall that BTUs (British Thermal Units, a measure of heat created by burning any material) are standard. If you have a 1,500-watt heater -- the wattage of the Roll-n-Glow -- it's going to be capable of producing 5,119 BTU. That's also the BTU capability of the $35 space heater you can get on sale at local hardware stores, at big-box office-supply stores or anywhere heaters are sold. There is no type of heater that can miraculously convert 1,500 watts into more than 5,119 BTUs. / Who are the Amish, and what are their beliefs? Question: "Who are the Amish, and what are their beliefs?" Answer: The Amish are a group of people who follow the teachings of Jacob Ammann, a seventeenth century citizen of Switzerland. It is a Protestant denomination, closely related to the Mennonites. The Amish, most of whom live in the United States, follow simple customs and refuse to take oaths, vote, or perform military service. They shun modern technology and conveniences. Transportation for the Amish is by horse and buggy. They do not have electricity or telephones in their homes. The men usually wear beards and pants with buttons instead of zippers. The women wear white head coverings and plain dresses, usually without buttons—they use straight pins to fasten the clothing. The Amish believe that James 1:27 "...and to keep oneself unspotted from the world" means to stay away from things the "world" does—like driving autos, having a TV, going to movies, wearing make-up, and the enjoying the conveniences of electricity and phones. They often use generators to create power to run their equipment and use horses, instead of tractors, to do farm work. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - New solar energy technology wins accolades
A shingle that generates solar energy was named one of the 50 Best Innovations of 2009 by Time magazine. Dow Chemical, the Powerhouse Solar Shingle's inventor, will make the shingles commercially available by the middle of next year. Dow's technology "will make affordable renewable energy a reality now and for future generations," said Dow Solar Solutions managing director Jane Palmieri. The Powerhouse design includes thin-film cells of copper indium gallium diselenide. Dow notes the cells' low cost relative to other solar technologies. And, on top of low cost, Dow's new shingle has other advantages. The company reports that the installation process is no different than that of traditional shingles, making Powerhouse shingles attractive to contractors. And in addition to saving money for homeowners by cutting energy use, the shingles are anticipated to make a lot of money for Dow - up to $10 billion a year by 2020. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Look ma, no wires
KeelyNet [Robotkid249] details how to build a wireless power transmission system. This is similar to the commercial applications we have seen in a TED talk as well is in a Sony prototype. Power is fed to a ring made of magnet wire. A smaller loop is attached to the system that you want to power and picked up from the base unit. In this case, he is powering some LEDs but the concept can be tailored for your purposes such as an inductive charging pad. We’d like to see a hack that incorporates the base into a mouse pad (or the desk itself) and the receiver into the body of a wireless mouse. We’ve seen a commercial solution along these lines but we want one that doesn’t require a physical connection for power transfer. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Mobile Water Purification Offers Hope To Disaster-Hit Regions
A Japanese team has developed Courier Water, a mobile desalination unit that has tremendous potential for helping people in areas affected by water shortages or natural disasters. The unit’s defining feature is its mobility. With its compact design, Courier Water can be installed on a four-ton truck, allowing it to travel far and wide. It incorporates a pump that produces pressure of about 6 MPa, enough to desalinize seawater, with only a small amount of energy. On the roof are solar panels that spread to over twice the truck’s width, and two wind turbines. In fair weather the electricity generated from the sun and wind can provide nearly 100% of the power needed, enabling the system to operate even in areas with an inadequate power supply, such as remote or disaster-affected communities. Courier Water employs a safe coagulant made from natural substances including polyglutamic acid and calcium. Polyglutamic acid is an amino acid polymer widely known to be responsible for the threadlike goo of natto, the traditional Japanese food otherwise known as fermented soybeans. The coagulant is used to clot particles of impurities in the water prior to filtration by reverse osmosis, simplifying the filtration process. Coagulation significantly improves water quality, as well as reducing the strain on the reverse osmosis membrane. In addition to its safety and efficiency, Courier Water’s coagulant is distinct in that it has little effect on the pH level of the water. This eliminates the need to adjust the pH of the water using sodium hydroxide or other caustic agents, which cannot be handled without a special license. The coagulant also removes any heavy metals contained in the water. The truck-loaded Courier Water is capable of producing 7.2 tons of drinking water in a day, enough for 3,600 people, assuming that a person drinks 2 liters per day. A container-type system has also been developed. While not mobile, it is capable of purifying several times more water than its mobile counterpart and will be transported to its destination mainly by ship. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Omni-car
We stumbled onto one of [Nik Melton]’s projects, an Omni-car. It is omnidirectional, meaning it can go any direction at any time without having to turn. The body was designed by him, then printed with a 3D printer. The control scheme is what interests us though. He has found a simple way to wire it to get the job done. Sure you can see that it suffers from some pretty bad “drift” when trying to go in a straight line, but overall, we think he pulled it off well. You might want to take a few moments to look around his project page. This guy has done a bunch of fun stuff like delta robots, strange hybrid wheel/leg robots, tesla coils, and arm mounted flamethrowers. Judging by the videos, he’s pretty young too. We think his guy has a bright future ahead of him. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Laser Weapon Shoots Down Airplanes In Test
"Boeing's directed-energy weapons (a.k.a. frickin' laser beams) have been getting some attention lately. The Advanced Tactical Laser (ATL) is a C-130 that famously burned a hole through a car's hood, and the YAL-1 AirBorne Laser is a 747 that shoots a laser from its nose that is powerful enough to bring down an ICBM. But even cooler is the Mobile Active Targeting Resource for Integrated eXperiments (MATRIX), a laser that is mounted on a truck (which probably costs less than a 747, but who knows) and that can shoot down small aircraft, as shown in the picture on this article. (The Laser Avenger supposedly also has this capability). We live in the future!" - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Intel Says Brain Implants Could Control Computers By 2020
"Scientists at Intel are working on developing sensors that would be implanted in a person's head in order to harness brain waves that could then be used to control computers, televisions, cell phones and other electronic equipment. Intel has already used Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (FMRI) machines to determine that blood flow changes in specific areas of the brain based on what word or image someone is thinking of. People tend to show the same brain patterns for similar thoughts. 'Eventually people may be willing to be more committed ... to brain implants. Imagine being able to surf the Web with the power of your thoughts.' said Intel research scientist Dean Pomerleau." - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Remote uses no batteries
KeelyNet How often do you change the batteries in your television remote control? Yeah, basically never. But that’s a tribute to how efficient the device is and not a reason to overlook this development. NEC is showing off a remote control that uses no batteries. Power is generated using the piezo effect that occurs when a button is pushed. That is to say, when a crystal is compressed it emits a tiny bit of electricity which is harnessed and used to power this device. This is the same principle that is used in the electricity producing sidewalks tested in Japan. It’s pretty phenomenal that they can run the device using this method. Right now there’s only a handful of buttons but we’re sure there’ll be advances in the technology. There’s a ton of use for this if it can be miniaturized. It is using radio frequency instead of infrared, making it a useful development in wireless doorbells, garage door openers, key-less entry fobs for your car, and many more applications. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Anti-Smoking Vaccine Is Nearing the Market
"Almost 6 years ago we discussed a vaccine to help people quit smoking as it entered human clinical trials. Now it looks like the finishing touches have been put on a deal that will go into effect once phase III testing of the drug now called NicVAX is completed. NicVAX was developed by Nabi Biopharmaceuticals, who have agreed to license it to GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals; it is expected to complete phase III testing successfully. Others have fallen short of this goal, in pursuit of a smoking-cessation market expected to hit $4.6 billion worldwide by 2016. Nabi has also sold an experimental vaccine for staph infections; and in 2008 we discussed news of a cocaine vaccine." - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Chu's Tall Tale of Energy Efficiency
It was certainly striking in the telling. But the truth is another story. Speaking to business leaders at a White House event last week on clean energy and the economy, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu was asked what he's doing to improve energy efficiency at Department of Energy laboratories. Chu launched into a story of gross energy negligence at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), which he headed before coming to Washington, D.C. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Chickens home to roost- Millions will have to repay part of tax credit
More than 15 million taxpayers could unexpectedly owe taxes when they file their federal returns next spring because the government was too generous with their new Making Work Pay tax credit. Taxpayers are at risk if they have more than one job, are married and both spouses work, or receive Social Security benefits while also earning taxable wages, according to a report Monday by the Treasury Department's inspector general for tax administration. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - How to Avoid Unnecessary Car Costs
A guy walks into a mechanic and asks for a tune-up. “Looks like your car needs a lot of work,” says the mechanic. “After a quick inspection, I estimate about $1000 worth of services.” It may sound like a joke, but car owners are often hit with an unhappy diagnosis like this. Many of us have little-to-no car expertise. We feel helpless at the sometimes-merciless hand of our mechanic. After all, who are we to say when a spark plug needs changing or steering should be flushed? Jon Bartunek, owner of his family’s Union Street Garage in San Francisco who has worked in the car repair business since he was ten years old, has some empowering tips and guidelines to offer. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Federal 'improper spending' surges to $98bn
The US government wasted almost $100bn in tax dollars in fiscal 2009 - more than a third more than the year before - prompting the White House to pledge a crackdown on fraud and mistakes in federal spending. So-called 'improper payments' by government agencies to individuals, organizations and contractors surged from $72bn in 2008 to $98bn in 2009; 5 per cent of total outlays. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Why Capitalism Cannot Survive Global Warming
In one view, the destruction of old energy technology and its replacement could become the basis for a new round of capitalist growth. In another analysis, the changes necessary to halt global warming cannot be contained within capitalism. It will be argued that the technological changes required are so very major as to imply a drastic reduction in material production and consumption. The consequences of doing nothing are equally drastic. One possible outcome is world revolution, despite the absence of a strong anti-capitalist movement today. Another option is that the capitalist class will agree to a new dispensation and direct much productive capacity to saving the planet. The capitalist class would be behaving more like a redistributive chieftainship; extracting surplus value and redistributing it. Or these problems could be resolved coercively in a technocratic feudalism. A likely outcome is a last days flurry of grand projects and expensive wars, followed by a collapse in food production and population. So whatever is done to resolve the environmental crisis, we are not going to end up with a capitalist society. For environmental activists, putting environmental outcomes first is just as likely to bring down capitalism as a campaign to end capitalist society. Doing nothing at all is very likely to have the same effect. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - World on course for catastrophic 6° rise
The world is now firmly on course for the worst-case scenario in terms of climate change, with average global temperatures rising by up to 6C by the end of the century, leading scientists said yesterday. Such a rise – which would be much higher nearer the poles – would have cataclysmic and irreversible consequences for the Earth, making large parts of the planet uninhabitable and threatening the basis of human civilisation. We are headed for it, the scientists said, because the carbon dioxide emissions from industry, transport and deforestation which are responsible for warming the atmosphere have increased dramatically since 2002, in a way which no one anticipated, and are now running at treble the annual rate of the 1990s. This means that the most extreme scenario envisaged in the last report from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, published in 2007, is now the one for which society is set, according to the 31 researchers from seven countries involved in the Global Carbon Project. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Mind Blowing Hyperrealistic Sculptures
KeelyNet Artists that produce photorealistic sculptures, for the most part, aim to show us our bodies and life as it really is. Technically, artists who strive for a high resolution level of detail in painting or sculpture are called “hyperrealists”, although all hyperrealists are also considered to be photorealists. Every detail is slavishly recreated as close to the real life model as possible, even if the sculpture is larger than the original scale. Photorealistic sculptors create truly amazing sculptures that will make you feel wonder, revulsion and the sense of looking in someone else’s mirror. 11/21/09 - Planet's Megacities Create A Third of World’s GDP
GDP of the world’s largest cities with emerging economies will experience rapid growth. In 2008 the largest 100 cities accounted for about 30% of global GDP and some have bigger economies than medium-sized countries like Sweden or Switzerland. Within the last three years, Moscow has leaped from the 25th to the 15th place in this rating. Tokyo that produced goods and services totaling to $1.479 trillion last year leads the rating. The next three positions are taken by American agglomerations: New York ($1.406 trillion), Los Angeles ($792 billion), and Chicago ($574 billion). The size of economy of the first two of these cities amounted to nearly $1.5 trillion each, which is close to the size of economy of Spain. The most noticeable change in the first ten positions since 2005 was London ($565 billion) getting ahead of Paris ($564 billion) by a billion dollars and taking the 5th place. San Paulo took the 10th place and neared Philadelphia with $388 billion. The top 10 include two countries-representatives of the Old World, five North American metropolises (including Mexico City with $390 billion, 8th place), and two Japanese agglomerations – Tokyo and Osaka/Kobe ($417 billion, 7th place). It is worth mentioning that in 2008 only two European cities besides London and Paris were in the top 30 – Moscow and Madrid. In countries like Germany and Italy there is not only one dominating capital city like in Great Britain and France, but several main cities whose economy is considered medium-sized by the world standards. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - Russia Builds New Spaceport for Lunar and Martian Missions
Russia is equipping its spaceport at Kourou, the Space Center of French Guiana. This week it sent there two Soyuz rockets. They will be launched into space in 2010 along with the Russian boosters Vega. Why is Russia so interested in developing its space program in Guiana with its horrible climate and sad fame of a former French colony for incorrigible offenders? Pravda.ru interviewed Sergey Fyodorov, a senior research fellow of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Science, to discuss this issue. “First of all, it is beneficial for Russia to enter the international space market. We have been collaborating with France in the area of aviation and space industry for a long time. The French are interested in our technologies, that’s why they opened the door that was closed for us before. There are no rocket carriers in the world that would be comparable with the Russian ones. Ariane used by Europeans is good, but it’s designed for heavy lifting. There are no light rockets in Europe, whereas Russia has the “light” Vega and “medium” Soyuz rockets. Besides, French specialists believe that Russian rockets are more convenient, simple, and reliable than similar European rockets. Another important factor is that the equator is located 310 miles away from Guiana, which is extremely important for launching space devices. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - A 25-Year Battery
Batteries that harvest energy from the nuclear decay of isotopes can produce very low levels of current and last for decades without needing to be replaced. A new version of the batteries, called betavoltaics, is being developed by an Ithaca, NY-based company and tested by Lockheed Martin. The batteries could potentially power electrical circuits that protect military planes and missiles from tampering by destroying information stored in the systems, or by sending out a warning signal to a military center. The batteries are expected to last for 25 years. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - How to Spur U.S. Renewable Energy
Steen Riisgaard, the CEO of Novozymes, based in Denmark, had more specific recommendations for the biofuels industry. He said the current 10 percent limit on the amount of ethanol in gasoline is slowing down the industry in the United States. He said that the EPA should raise what he called this "arbitrary limit" on ethanol content to 15 percent. The current limit effectively puts a cap on the amount of ethanol that can be sold in the U.S. Riisgaard's other suggestions sounded less controversial. He wants the federal government to require 50 percent of all new vehicles in the next couple of years to be flex fuel vehicles capable of running on 85 percent ethanol (which seems feasible given the low cost of doing this), to require 25 percent of the largest gas stations to install E-85 pumps by 2014 (funded by reducing subsidies to the gasoline industry), and to require federal agencies to buy only flex-fuel vehicles and use only E-85 in new vehicles. Finally he called on the Department of Energy to send out what remains of $480 million already approved for funding advanced biofuels. Do this, he said, and you'll create 100,000 jobs, and keep the rest of the world from overtaking the current U.S. lead in biofuels. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - 'Zombie Buildings': Are They The Next Economic Calamity?
Many banks that cater to regional and community developments were largely unscathed by the residential mortgage meltdown. With few tenants, those developments are turning into what industry insiders call zombie buildings. - Full Article Source

11/21/09 - ‘Climate change pushes poor women to prostitution, dangerous work’
The effects of climate change have driven women in communities in coastal areas in poor countries like the Philippines into dangerous work, and sometimes even the flesh trade, a United Nations official said. Of the 92 million Filipinos, about 60 percent are living in coastal areas and depend on the seas for livelihood, said former Environment secretary Dr. Angel Alcala. Alcala said that “we have already exceeded the carrying capacity of our marine environment." But as the sea’s resources are depleted due to overpopulation and overfishing, fishermen start losing their livelihood and women are forced to share the traditional role of the man in providing for the family. Women who can no longer endure this work often go out to find other jobs, while some are tempted to go into prostitution, Alcala added. - Full Article Source

11/19/09 - Green plan to add £3,300 to cost of a car
A report unveiled today by experts including the Government's environment tsar will urge £150bn in taxes on households and businesses. Petrol could cost £2 a litre by 2020, while a tax on new cars that would start at £300 would rise by £3,000 over the next 11 years. The blitz is essential if Britain is to meet its target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by a third by that time, according to the influential think-tank behind the proposals. But critics said drivers were already over-taxed and were being used as 'cash cows'. (3,300.00 GBP = $5,491.34 USD) - Full Article Source

11/19/09 - Giving gas the boot
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to be remembered as the leader of a small nation who warned the great countries about the dangers lurking for Western democracy, and showed them how to protect themselves. For years, Israeli researcher Gal Luft has been preaching about "energy security" in Washington, and warning that the oil addiction is making the West a captive to threatening and unstable regimes. In his lectures, he reminds Americans that in their land of suburbia, it is impossible even to buy bread without driving a petroleum-fueled car. He relates that much of the world's oil reserves lie under the Sunni-Shiite rift - that is, in regions prone to Islamic extremism and religious wars. In short, oil means trouble. Netanyahu shares this view, but adds two new dimensions. He believes alternative energy will create a more equal distribution of global wealth, and will not enrich only countries blessed with subterranean oil reserves. This is especially important for developing countries like China, India and the African states, which depend on oil from the Middle East and whose industrial revolution is restricted by concerns about greenhouse gas emissions. - Full Article Source

11/19/09 - IIT boys draw power & water from sewage
It was while working on microbes that can be used as purifying agents that Manoj Mandelia, a fourth year student of biotech engineering, stumbled upon the idea that if a bio cell can be developed to treat sewage water for use, it would solve one of the biggest problems of the present times. The idea is simple. The specially designed bio cell (LOCUS) will be set up in the form of a plant, through which the sewage water of a housing complex would be flowed in. The genius of this invention which is awaiting patent lies in the design of the cell that will automatically grow millions of anaerobic bacteria that multiply through respiration. The bacteria clean up the sewage water and in the process generate free electrons. If harnessed, these electrons can generated electricity. The cell, at this stage, can clean up 50,000 litres of sewage water, about the amount generated by 100 flats in a day. The water produced this way can be compared with that supplied provided by a civic body, the students say. "The purified water has been tested and has been certified to be clean and fit for household use. It is, however, not fit for drinking," Mandelia explained. The IIT-Kgp team has even produced electricity with the bio cell. "A township of 100,000 people needs about 2.3 megawatts of electricity a day. It will be years before we reach that stage. But we have already been able to generate electricity. By next year, we aim to generate 350 units, enough to meet 50% of the demand of a 100-flat complex. When we say this we are not taking airconditioners into consideration," said Prateek. - Full Article Source

Will your relatives be able to gain access, or will the accounts simply fade away? That depends. Weblog MakeUseOf looks into the subject, examining several of the most popular web services out there. Email services like Hotmail and Gmail allow next of kin to access accounts of deceased individuals as long as the family can provide proof of death. Other services, like MySpace, will simply delete the account upon request. Facebook will also delete an account if asked, but also goes the extra mile and turns the user's page into a memorial page if the family desires. Hit up the post for more steps various email and social networking sites take when notified of a user's death, and read up on making post-mortem plans for your online life. - Full Article Source

11/19/09 - Uncovering Obama's Stimulus Sham
There were few economists who really believed, despite the promises that the money would go to shovel ready projects that could begin immediately once the funding came through, that the stimulus would really create any net jobs. It comes as little surprise that the recipients of the stimulus money have been, to put it indelicately, cooking the books. Both ABC News and the Washington, DC Examiner have been monitoring the spending as posted on the government's recovery.gov website and have found egregious errors, including money being spent in non-existent congressional districts and public entities claiming the stimulus money saved their entire workforce. Vice President Joe Biden, when told of the problems, reportedly told those responsible for the website to "fix it." Having dealt with the "jobs issue" early on in his administration, President Obama thought he could move on to healthcare, a national energy tax, the abolition of "Don't ask, Don't tell," and other issues that were important to his political base. "Working in partnership with the US Army Corp of Engineers, Berry Plastics has rolled out a new breed of bomb-proof wallpaper. Dubbed the X-Flex Blast Protection System, the wallpaper is so effective that a single layer can keep a wrecking ball from smashing through a brick wall, and a double layer can stop blunt objects (i.e. a flying 2×4) from knocking down drywall. According to its designers, covering an entire room takes less than an hour." - Full Article Source

11/19/09 - The Fed - Out of Control - End the FEDERAL RESERVE. Audit the FED
The Federal Reserve is one of the most powerful and secretive institutions in Washington, long considered beyond the reach of lawmakers. But now, as details emerge of how the Fed secretly doled out more than a trillion dollars during the financial crisis, a rare bipartisan movement in Congress demands that the Fed be held accountable. - Full Article Source

11/18/09 - Super Efficient Hydrogen Generator PDF
KeelyNet From Jeffrey Sokol - George Wiseman and I have been speaking daily about WFC invention a retired physicist friend of mine produced. He is in AZ, and says he can run a 3.6 kw generator with his HHO fuel cell design, at a full load, with only 10% of the power created by the generator. George asked me to make contact with you so we can get the information out there together, and we must act quickly. I'll be selling the information on how to replicate the design online... My friend in AZ says that his cells are stackable, so they can be fitted to larger generators to power homes like 17 kw or even 100 kw with enough cells. Oh, by the way, the cells only use distilled water, and usually zero electrolyte. The past times he's used tap water, it's had way too much electrolyte for the cell. The cells don't get above 88 degrees. He has all the notes and photos to make a complete packet of information. / The cell is a 12.5 volt design, to be used anywhere. What makes it so amazing, is that the inventor, Dr. Steven Eaton, has designed it so that physics work with the cell, instead of against it. The cell is incredibly efficient, able to produce approximately 5 liters per minute, with less than 15 amps, with absolutely ZERO electrolyte. The cell in previous testing has not reached over 88 degrees. Previous models were completed, producing 2 lpm with 10 amps each. 3 of those units were fitted to run a 3.55 kw Troy Bilt Generator. The generator ran 100% on 6 LPM of HHO gas, which was produced by the Troy Bilt Generator itself, and ran light bulbs and other shop devices. The only thing that bogged it down was a large bench grinder drawing 4.9 amps on top of the 200 watts being taken from 2 light bulbs. The key here, is that electricity was being produced with 100% water for fuel technology, no gasoline or any other fossil fuels. The Troy Bilt generated enough power off of HHO gas, to operate the HHO cells, and provide extra power for small household items. This newest design will be finished and tested very soon... Dr. Eaton has designed it to be even more efficient than it’s predecessors. Each unit providing 5 liters per minute, drawing less than 15 amps, will be mounted on the generator. / (Courtesy of Jeffrey D. 11/18/09 - Solasyphon cuts costs of Solar Heaters
KeelyNet The Solasyphon is set to revolutionise the option of solar water heating by making the cost of installation cheaper. The product was developed to remove the need for householders to replace their existing hot water tank when installing solar panels and was driven by the cost of installing the new tank and the waste involved in scrapping the old one. The result is a significant drop in the cost of switching to solar power that is set to dramatically increase the uptake of the technology. / Our clever clogs device doesn’t rely on nasty fossil fuels for energy, so while you’re boiling your water, you won’t be boiling the planet! And, you’ll save up to 30% of the installation costs of a similar solar cylinder because the Solasyphon is fitted to your existing hot water storage cylinder. The Willis Solasyphon can be connected to the existing hot water cylinder with two simple connections. This is quicker, cheaper and much more environmentally friendly than the alternative. The unique and innovative feature of the Willis Solasyphon is the way in which it delivers solar heated water directly to the top of the existing water hot water cylinder where it stratifies ready for use at a useable temperature. - Full Article Source

11/18/09 - Telepresence Robots can take your place at Work
'Anybots' are controlled via video-game-like controls from your laptop, allowing you to be “present” without actually being in the office. The robots are equipped with a screen displaying your smiling mug to your co-workers, as well as a camera that beams a feed straight to your computer screen. They’re also mobile, so you can still drop by co-workers’ offices unannounced, presumably to let them know that a robot will be filling in for you today. There are a few variations that Anybots is toying with, including one with long arms and hands, and another with a laser pointer. While it may seem to be little more than an expensive videoconferencing link (the product is expected to retail between $10,000 and $15,000), it could be a valuable tool in workplace environments where a more physical presence is handy, such as for U.S. businesses trying to keep an eye on manufacturing floors overseas. - Full Article Source

11/18/09 - Cooling Bags Could Cut Server Cooling Costs By 93%
"UK company Iceotope has launched liquid-cooling technology which it says surpasses what can be done with water or air-cooling and can cut data centre cooling costs by up to 93 percent. Announced at Supercomputing 2009 in Portland, Oregon, the 'modular Liquid-Immersion Cooled Server' technology wraps each server in a cool-bag-like device, which cools components inside a server, rather than cooling the whole data centre, or even a traditional 'hot aisle.' Earlier this year, IBM predicted that in ten years all data centre servers might be water-cooled." - Full Article Source

11/18/09 - Engineered Bacteria Glows To Reveal Land Mines
"Sifting through minefields to remove hidden threats is a dangerous, tedious, and expensive process. Scientists at the University of Edinburgh recently announced that they have engineered a strain of bacteria that glows green in the presence of explosives, making mine detection a snap. The new strain of bacteria can be sprayed onto local affected areas or air-dropped over entire fields of mines. Within a few hours the bacteria strain begins to glow wherever traces of explosive chemicals are present." - Full Article Source

11/18/09 - The Jet Fighter Laser Cannon
"The US military will shortly issue a brace of contracts for 'refrigerator sized' laser blaster cannons. One of the deals will see a full-power ground prototype built which will be the final stage prior to America's first raygun-equipped jet fighter. ... If it scales down far enough, this would seem to put handheld HELL-guns within an order of magnitude of the striking power offered by conventional small-arms. A 9mm pistol bullet has about 750 joules muzzle energy: a 5kg portable HELL-ray weapon would put out this much energy in a blast less than a second long. We seem to be looking at practicable head-[laser] output in the 20-kilowatt range." - Full Article Source

14 Ways to Save Money on Fuel Costs
KeelyNetThis eBook is the result of years of research into various methods to increase mileage, reduce pollution and most importantly, reduce overall fuel costs. It starts out with the simplest methods and offers progressively more detailed technologies that have been shown to reduce fuel costs. As a bonus to readers, I have salted the pages with free interesting BONUS items that correlate to the relevant page. Just filling up with one tank of gas using this or other methods explained here will pay for this eBook. Of course, many more methods are out there but I provided only the ones which I think are practical and can be studied by the average person who is looking for a way to immediately reduce their fuel costs. I am currently using two of the easier methods in my own vehicle which normally gets 18-22 mpg and now gets between 28 and 32 mpg depending on driving conditions. A tank of gas for my 1996 Ford Ranger costs about $45.00 here so I am saving around $15-$20 PER TANK, without hurting my engine and with 'greener' emissions due to a cleaner burn! The techniques provided in this ebook begin with simple things you can do NOW to improve your mileage and lower your gas costs. - $15 eBook Download / Source to Buy

KeelyNet BBS Files w/bonus PDF of 'Keely and his Discoveries'
KeelyNet Finally, I've gotten around to compiling all the files (almost 1,000 - about 20MB and lots of work doing it) from the original KeelyNet BBS into a form you can easily navigate and read using your browser, ideally Firefox but it does work with IE. Most of these files are extremely targeted, interesting and informative, I had forgotten just how much but now you can have the complete organized, categorized set, not just sprinklings from around the web. They will keep you reading for weeks if not longer and give you clues and insights into many subjects and new ideas for investigation and research. IN ADDITION, I am including as a bonus gift, the book (in PDF form) that started it all for me, 'Keely and his Discoveries - Aerial Navigation' which includes the analysis of Keely's discoveries by Dr. Daniel G. Brinton. This 407 page eBook alone is worth the price of the KeelyNet BBS CD but it will give you some degree of understanding about what all Keely accomplished which is just now being rediscovered, but of course, without recognizing Keely as the original discoverer. Chapters include; Vibratory Sympathetic and Polar Flows, Vibratory Physics, Latent Force in Interstitial Spaces and much more. These two excellent bodies of information will be sent to you on CD. To give some idea of how Keely's discoveries are being slowly rediscovered in modern times, check out this Keely History. If alternative science intrigues and fascinates you, this CD is what you've been looking for... - Source

With such polarization, it might be guessed to act like a dielectric capacitor and as a diode...

'The Evolution of Matter' and 'The Evolution of Forces' on CD
KeelyNet Years ago, I had been told by several people, that the US government frequently removes books they deem dangerous or 'sensitive' from libraries. Some are replaced with sections removed or rewritten so as to 'contain' information that should not be available to the public despite the authors intent. A key example was during the Manhattan Project when the US was trying to finalize research into atomic bombs. They removed any books that dealt with the subject and two of them were by Dr. Gustave Le Bon since they dealt with both energy and matter including radioactivity. I had been looking for these two books for many years and fortunately stumbled across two copies for which I paid about $40.00 each. I couldn't put down the books once I started reading them. Such a wealth of original discoveries, many not known or remembered today. / Page 88 - Without the ether there could be neither gravity, nor light, nor electricity, nor heat, nor anything, in a word, of which we have knowledge. The universe would be silent and dead, or would reveal itself in a form which we cannot even foresee. If one could construct a glass chamber from which the ether were to be entirely eliminated, heat and light could not pass through it. It would be absolutely dark, and probably gravitation would no longer act on the bodies within it. They would then have lost their weight. / Page 96-97 - A material vortex may be formed by any fluid, liquid or gaseous, turning round an axis, and by the fact of its rotation it describes spirals. The study of these vortices has been the object of important researches by different scholars, notably by Bjerkness and Weyher. They have shown that by them can be produced all the attractions and repulsions recognized in electricity, the deviations of the magnetic needle by currents, etc. These vortices are produced by the rapid rotation of a central rod furnished with pallets, or, more simply, of a sphere. Round this sphere gaseous currents are established, dissymetrical with regard to its equatorial plane, and the result is the attraction or repulsion of bodies brought near to it, according to the position given to them. It is even possible, as Weyher has proved, to compel these bodies to turn round the sphere as do the satellites of a planet without touching it. / Page 149 - "The problem of sending a pencil of parallel Hertzian waves to a distance possesses more than a theoretical interest. It is allowable to say that its solution would change the course of our civilization by rendering war impossible. The first physicist who realizes this discovery will be able to avail himself of the presence of an enemy's ironclads gathered together in a harbour to blow them up in a few minutes, from a distance of several kilometres, simply by directing on them a sheaf of electric radiations. On reaching the metal wires with which these vessels are nowadays honeycombed, this will excite an atmosphere of sparks which will at once explode the shells and torpedoes stored in their holds. With the same reflector, giving a pencil of parallel radiations, it would not be much more difficult to cause the explosion of the stores of powder and shells contained in a fortress, or in the artillery sparks of an army corps, and finally the metal cartridges of the soldiers. Science, which at first rendered wars so deadly, would then at length have rendered them impossible, and the relations between nations would have to be established on new bases." - Source
